Google often pairs "invisible cochlear implant" with "invisible hearing aid cost." They are two different things, for two different levels of hearing.
An invisible hearing aid sits deep in the ear canal and makes sound louder. The US National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) says these canal styles are used for mild to moderately severe hearing loss. It says they usually are not recommended for severe to profound hearing loss.
A TICI is placed in surgery and puts every part under the skin, including the microphone and a rechargeable battery. The first one on sale, MED-EL's TICI UNICO, launched in Europe on September 29, 2026. The British Cochlear Implant Group says it is for adults with severe to profound hearing loss who qualify for a cochlear implant, and it is not for children. It is not FDA-approved.
So if your hearing aids still help you follow most conversations, a TICI is not your next step. If they do not, the next step is a regular cochlear implant evaluation, and a TICI is one more question to bring to it. If you are offered a cochlear implant, the British Cochlear Implant Group advises against delaying it to wait for a TICI.
