You asked someone to repeat themselves twice before ten, and the meeting where three people talked at once is still sitting with you. When working-age adults are asked what they find hard to hear, understanding the people they work with comes near the top of the list. The feeling most of them report is not embarrassment. It is being worn down by the same hard morning, over and over, and work is the one place you cannot go to less often. Most of what helps is not about trying harder.
